League Ready to resume

The league is ready to resume. After a lot of hard work and shopping around I was able to find a webhost that could accomodate our league's needs.

As a result you need only 2 links to bookmark (and this blog is no longer one of them).

The first one is the Forum. ALL information and discussion can easily be handled there. It is members only so go and register. The link is http://blbl.racetotheright.com/forum.

The other is the league's front page for stats. That is found at http://blbl.racetotheright.com.

Update...new season to begin this weekend.

The player pages are uploading...there are about 5500 of them to upload (180 teams...each major league teams has AAA, AA, A, A short season and Rookie). So, check out the new site.

If you find any bugs please let me know.

As I mentioned before all of the ratings are on a 1-100 scale. This should make things easier to scout.

Major League players will be update with each run. AAA will be uploaded every other run. The rest of the minor league players will be updated on a rotating bases in between the AAA uploads.

There are a few other things that will be added. One month before the Amateur Draft the list of available players is released. View that list and make a draft list. E-mail that to me. Your picks will be manually entered. (Because I will have your lists prior to the draft I will have the computer conduct my draft.)

New Home Page

OK, the new website is uploading but you can get a taste of it now...

http://blbl.racetotheright.com/html/leagues/league_100_home.html

The player pages are not uploaded yet but I believe everything else should be uploaded. Check it out and let me know what you think.

Uploads

Uploads have become an interesting dilemma. As it stands right now it will take about 2 1/2 days per upload because of the number players, stats, etc. I am looking into ideas for less frequent updates on minor league players and also other ISPs (Bravenet is not on my high list, but racetotheright.com is signed for another 2 years).

Please be patient and we will be on the way to a better league!

IMPORTANT MESSAGE

IMPORTANT MESSAGE
I sent out an e-mail earlier this week to all of the owners asking for input on the possible restart of the league. Why? At first it was a possible option that came about because the software engine that ran our league was old and unsupported and the new software was released earlier this week. There were pluses and minuses to switching.

Then a new problem came up which now makes the choice a mandatory one. The computer on which our league was run and stored crashed. It was a 5-year old laptop so I guess this was inevitible. Anyway we are doing a restart. Here is what should be known.

1. There will still be no financials dynamics in our league and from what I can tell the new software hides the financials altogether when that option is selected. So no longer will the reports show someone's contract is so much...no more messages from your players saying, "let's redo my contract" and no more salaries showing up that you need to ignore.

2. The rating scales are from 1-100 instead of 1-10. Additionally ALL ratings are 1-100 including those that used to be "brilliant", "very good", etc. This should be easier to read, analyze and remember.

3. From what I can tell the web interface is a H-U-G-E improvement from before.

There is a drawback...well, depending on how you look at it. There are more minor league teams. Instead of a AAA, AA and a A team you now have AAA, AA, A, A-short season and rookie league.

Because the software is new you can purchase it as well ($35) and run your team more efficiently. There is no obligation...it is simply an option that is now available.

The level of control strategy wise is incredible for you as owners now. If there is something you believe your team should do just ask and the change can be made. For example, if you notice you have a ton of jackrabbits on your roster you may want the manager to steal more frequently than normal and run the bases more aggressively. Strong bullpen and weak rotation? Have a quick hook on starters and a more generous hook on the bullpen.

Finally...there will be a change in the links to the website. I will update them on the blog here. If you have them bookmarked you will need to fix them. Sorry. It is for the better.

Week 14 is completed and player of the week

The upload was restarted and is now completed.

Player of the week:
Monday 7/8/2006 :

National League-Player of the Week :
C Aurelio Rosati (COL) !!
He batted .550 in 20 AB, with 5 HR and 14 RBI.

Player of the Week again...

I missed these in Week 13 and am giving the props now.
Sunday 7/1/2006 :
American League-Player of the Week :
3B Phillip Fordyce (BOS) !!
He batted .526 in 19 AB, with 3 HR and 7 RBI.

The Rockies recently were claimed by Marty Andrade. As it happens his team had the player of the week AND the NL Pitcher of the Month (incredible as lousy as his team's ERA is) AND the NL Batter of the Month.

Sunday 7/1/2006 :
National League-Pitcher of the Month :
Jason Marquis (COL) !!
He had a record of 6-0 in 6 games started, with an ERA of 2.28.
National League-Batter of the Month :
Bobby Abreu (COL) !!
He batted .411 in 107 AB, with 10 homers and 32 RBI.

National League-Player of the Week :
1B Paul Konerko (COL) !!
He batted .414 in 29 AB, with 3 HR and 8 RBI.

Week 14 uploading

I started the upload last night and it should have been done by now. I guess I will have to wait until I get home to see what the problem is.

Anyway, Week 14 is in mid-upload. The player pages are completed and the team pages are not yet.

This takes us up to July 8. The All-Star game is fast approaching.

Week 15 will be run tomorrow night...which will include the All-Star Game. The Box Score for that will be posted.

Week 13 uploading

I am sorry for the delay. I initally wanted to wait a few extra days so the tutorial would match what was actually online. Then life got in the way.

Week 13 is uploading right now and as of 11:10 AM the upload has been running for about 2 hours and has about 5 more to go.

These pages will be grey with blue text.

Tutorial Podcast

OK, the first podcast for the league is a tutorial. It is long, so take it in pieces or download it if you need to. I hope it is very helpful.

The podcast is found here

No Hitter pitched

I wanted to point out that there was a no-hitter pitched recently.

The box score is here.

Cincinnati's Mike Thurman struck out 11 and walked 4 in a 9-inning complete game no-hitter against the Anaheim Angels. The Reds won 9-0.

If you want to read the play by play go here.

This is the 8th no-hitter in league history.

Week 12 is uploaded

Week 12 is uploaded. We are quickly coming up to the All-Star break. I will also have the podcast tonight recorded.

What would you like to have in the podcast? Some advice on navigating the stats/ratings? Summary of what has happened in the previous week's worth of simulations? A look ahead to the coming week?

What would you guy like to hear the most?

Week 11 is uploading now

I am uploading week 11. You will know if a page is updated if it is grey. BTW, I hear that we are gaining another owner. Details coming soon.

First Trade of our league

OK, the computer teams have been trading like mad. But the first Human owned team has made a trade.
Trade between Boston and Los Angeles:
Los Angeles gets:
3B Raymond Reece
Boston gets:
P Isidro Vandoren

Plenty of opportunties available. Keep looking.

BTW, I will do an experimental podcast tonight and MIGHT even post it. Watch this blog for updates.

Week 11 to be run soon and possible podcast?

I am trying to get the league runs into a routine but I have to admit that it has been difficult with my move, unpacking and getting caught up with life. Add to that the equipment for my new in home studio has been coming this week and I have been trying to get this all completed before the end of May.

That said, I will be running Week 11 tonight...I hope.

I say that as a warning to a few owners who are in the midst of trade talks. In order for those trades to take affect for Week 11 they will need to be submitted to the commish's office (via e-mail please) before the end of business today. ;)

Finally, with the in home studio being near completion I have been considering doing a 5-10 minute weekly podcast for the league to give audio updates. Would you all be interested in this?

Wednesday, April 19, 2006

Boston Player of the week

Monday 6/10/2006 :
American League-Player of the Week :
3B Phillip Fordyce (BOS) !!
He batted .444 in 27 AB, with 2 HR and 11 RBI.

Monday, April 17, 2006

I apologize...Week 10 going up tonight

I have to apologize for the delay. We have been going crazy unpacking and then in my spare time I have been going crazy unpacking and setting up my recording studio in my house.

Week 10 is ready to be uploaded and I will do so tonight.

Thursday, April 06, 2006

Week 9 will be uploading tonight

Week 9 has been simulated and I am working on finding a color scheme that is readable. Then I will start the upload and go to bed.

The grey background will be the color scheme for Week 9. If it is blue then it is a page from Week 8. If it is grey with blue text then it is updated.

Monday, April 03, 2006

Week 8 is uploading tonight

Week 8 is uploading tonight. You will know if the stat page you are looking at has been updated because it will have a dark blue background instead of Week 7's light grey background.

Cheers.

UPDATE
I was just checking the progress of the upload and noticed the player pages updated but the team pages did not. I will check on this when I get home tonight and re-attempt the upload.

BTW, I am looking for a trade. I need help in my outfield and my middle infield.

UPDATE 2
By the time I got home the entire upload was completed. I am scheduling the next 2 week's worth of games to be run on Thursday and Saturday.

Friday, March 31, 2006

Boston wins AL Player of the Week again

American League-Player of the Week :
3B Phillip Fordyce (BOS) !!
He batted .500 in 26 AB, with 5 HR and 11 RBI.

Week 7 Uploading tonight

Week 7 is uploading tonight. Week 8 is scheduled for Saturday.

Tuesday, March 28, 2006

I am back

I am back online (in a still limited fashion) and will be running another week's worth of games over the next day or two. The updated stats will be uploaded then...so watch for that.

Tuesday, March 21, 2006

Week 6 Upload

Week 6 will upload tonight. The player pages may not be included. Since we are moving there will be a small hiatus in the season. We are killing our internet tomorrow morning and packing the computer shortly after. We likely will not be online again until next Sunday or Monday.

You will know if the stat pages are updated because they will be a different color.

Commish Tips

Don't forget to look at your team page regularly. It has your roster and lineups, links to various reports about your team and e-mails. E-mails can be status updates from the minor league managers or trade offers from computer teams.

As an example, this is one this last week to the Seattle owner:
DATE: Friday, 5/3/2006
Trade offer
Dear Sir,
I would like to offer you following trade:
SS Moises Machado
in return for
SP Scott Shrewsbury.

Please let me know if you accept!

Best Regards,
Arizona GM

Look at the players being offered (sometimes they are in the minors) and see if it is a trade you want to accept. If so, just let me know so I can enter it in the system.

News Updates from Week 5

The April 2006 Player of the Month Awards came out this past update. One of our owners has a player named Player of the Month.

The recent Player of the Week Awards also had a player from one our our owners. Congratulations.

Monday 5/6/2006 :
American League-Player of the Week :
3B Phillip Fordyce (BOS) !!
He batted .417 in 24 AB, with 4 HR and 9 RBI.

---------
Tuesday 5/1/2006 :
American League-Batter of the Month :
Phillip Fordyce (BOS) !!
He batted .368 in 95 AB, with 9 homers and 33 RBI.

Week 5 is up

I have to apologize for the delay. I have been having connection problems at home. Week 5 is up. Week 6 I hope to have uploaded tonight before we pack the computer up for our move this week.

Sunday, March 12, 2006

Week 4 Stats Uploading

Week 4 stats are uploading overnight tonight.

Don't forget that you can propose trades with a computer-owned team. The computer will evaluate the trade offers and either accept it or deny it.

Saturday, March 11, 2006

Week 3 Stats Uploaded

Week 3 team stats have been uploaded. The player stats are being uploaded right now. (I started the upload at midnight and it is about 1/2 done.)

If you have any questions let me know. Week 4 will be run tonight.

Wednesday, March 08, 2006

Breaking News...

Hey managers,
Don't forget to check your team update pages (found on the right column). After Week 2 one of our managers players won Player of the Week Awards.

SS Alex Ramirez (BOS) !!
He batted .480 in 25 AB, with 4 HR and 10 RBI.

You can see news like this reported either on the Team Update Page (for Boston's click here), the Breaking News page which is like a short newspaper write up, or the General News page where the latest news is at the bottom of the page.

And for those of you who check the Week 2 News it is reporting a National League Player of the Week winner from Boston. The player is actually on Atlanta's team and I am looking into this problem.

Week 2 Stats completed

The week 2 stats have been uploaded. Week 3 will be run Thursday or Friday. The stats will be uploaded immediately after the run. Week 4 will be run the day after Week 3 stats are uploaded. By Tuesday morning Week 4 should be uploaded.

Tommy, just so you know, the Seattle Mariners lineup changes will take affect in Week 3.

Week 1 upload progress report

The upload of all of the team and league stats for Week 1 are online. This includes box scores & play-by-play (aka logs).

Player stats will be uploaded throughout the day and evening.

Keep in mind that player ratings are on two different scales...A (best) - F (worst) and 1 (worst) - 10 (best). These do not change during the season.

Week 1 has been completed

Week 1 has been run and is being uploaded today (I can upload it while I am in training).

One thing that will be up possibly tonight are the boxscores for the games run. Also uploaded with the boxscores will be the play-by-play. Let me know if they are helpful. If not I will not have them created beyond the April games.

Of the human run teams all but one are at or above .500 after the first week. Good luck everyone.

Season Ready to go--Season Run Scheduled

The team pages are all updated and online! Go to your team page and check it out. We are on track and the first two weeks of the season will be run on 3/3/06 - 3/4/06. Tentatively the first week's results (box scores and team pages) will be online by 3/5/06. Full 2 week results will be uploaded overnight 3/5/06.

Good luck.

First update of the season

I am trying out a method of FTP uploading that will help me save time if it works. I am running the upload from home as we speak. At first check it looks like the attempt has failed and if that is the case I will be doing the upload overnight.

Regardless, the season's Spring Training has been run and should be available to view soon. The lineups are on a default for all teams and if you want to make changes at any time just post a comment here with the lineup or send an e-mail to me

racetotheright

Considering most of us are just going to sit back and see how things go I will run the first 2 weeks of the season Friday and Saturday. Watch your team homepage (links at the right side of the blog) for messages about injuries.
